New Variant is a four-piece rock band from Mankato, MN. The band draws inspiration from ‘60s psychedelic rock, ‘70s funk, and ‘90s dream pop to craft their sound, which could generally be described as noisy, atmospheric rock with a strong groove. Lyrical themes deal with relationships, difficult emotions, and philosophical musings on authenticity and choice. Before New Variant was a bona fide band, it was an alternative musical outlet for bassist Kaleb Braun-Schulz, drummer Noah Christ, and guitarist Cooper Fuller—all of whom perform as part of Kaleb’s band, the Nightingale Band. One day Cooper met with his high school friend, guitarist Trace Hafner, after 6 years apart, and an impromptu jam between the two ensued. After that impromptu jam, Cooper quickly introduced Trace to the rest of the group, and New Variant was formed.
